Motorola Solutions has partnered with  BRINC drones and SkySafe airspace management systems to expand the company's Drone As First Responder (DFR) program and enhance its CommandCentral 911 dispatch system.

Back in April of this year, Motorola Solutions invested in both companies to move its DFR strategy forward.

“These partnerships really set us up as the market leader in the public safety workflow software," said Motorola Solutions corporate vice president Jeremiah Nelson. “We’re working with SkySafe and BRINC, to be able to not just provide that technology, but provide it in a way that agencies can really drive the best outcomes for their communities. The BRINC and SkySafe partnerships are bringing DFR capability into the response of our 911 command center software, as well as the situational awareness of drone traffic and being able to use that within the public-safety workflow. From the DFR standpoint, it’s really about getting situational awareness—live videos in particular—as fast as possible, so that officers know what they’re walking into.As soon as the 911 call comes in, it can get passed over through the software to the drone team, get a drone up, get eyes on the scene, and stream that video back.”

At present, Motorola Solutions CommandCentral software powers the 911 centers of approximately 60 percent of American emergency and public safety agencies.

“Drone usage is increasing and will only continue to increase,” continued Nelson. "SkySafe’s technology will give the agencies the ability to identify and track the routes of drones operating in their communities, providing crucial information for law enforcement personnel working to secure the airspace—especially around sites of major concern, such as sports arenas or power plants."

In addition, in its DFR brochure for law enforcement, Motorola Solutions explains CAPE—"a drone flight control software platform that facilitates local and remote piloting, live streaming to anywhere in the world and evidence-grade video management. By integrating CAPE-equipped drones into daily workflows, agencies can respond to and assess active situations sooner, make lifesaving decisions on-scene and even clear calls when officers aren’t needed, saving time and money."

To that end, Motorola Solutions' relationship with BRINC drones has encouraged the drone maker to "step up to the next phase of DFR evolution" by manufacturing a law-enforcement UAV with lights and sirens, as well as other DFR features, such as playload capacity for emergency supplies (EpiPens, Narcan, etc.).

"The partnerships with BRINC and SkySafe will continue to grow, fueled both by the growing number of agencies undertaking DFR programs," stated Nelson, “and the increasing prevalence of drones and agencies needing to understand what’s happening in the skies.”
