Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives (MMIR) is a worldwide crisis which has only recently begun to come to the light. Racial misclassifications, racial and gender bias in police forces, how cases are handled, no accountability, jurisdictional barriers, lack of media coverage and technologies, and continued generational traumas are contributing factors to the oppression of justice for these families.&nbsp;
<h5>Statistics</h5>
&bull; Indigenous/Native women (and girls) murdered ten times higher than all other ethnicities.
&nbsp;&bull; Murder is the third leading cause of death for Indigenous women (CDC).
&nbsp;&bull; More than four out of five (84.3%) Indigenous women have experienced violence in their lifetimes. (National Institute of Justice Report).
&nbsp;&bull; More than half experience sexual violence (56.1%).
&nbsp;&bull; More than half (55.5%) of Indigenous women have been physically abused by their intimate partners.&nbsp;
&nbsp;&bull; 96% of this violence is committed by non-Native persons.
&nbsp;&bull; 40% of women involved in sex trafficking identify as American Indian, Alaska Native, or First Nations, but make up only 10% of the population (SASO).
&nbsp;&bull; More than 95% of Missing and Murdered Indigenous People cases are never covered by the media.
&nbsp;&bull; Nearly one-third of the perpetrators are not held accountable.
<h5>How Drones are Helping&nbsp;</h5>
Generally, aircraft are the most efficient facility for SAR (search and rescue) operations and can reach distant areas quickly and cover a large area within a given time. Fixed-wing aircraft normally fly at higher speeds than helicopters, and are used in larger areas and at greater range. Helicopters are excellent search aircraft, but their normally limited endurance and speed reduce the area they can search effectively. Helicopters are a prime means for rescue operations, such as recovering survivors from a distress scene, delivering supplies, survival equipment, and dropping SAR and medical personnel at the distress scene. The slower an aircraft flies, the better it is for conducting a visual search, as small and partially hidden search objects are easily missed at higher speeds.
Look For Me was formed in November 2021 in response to overwhelming cry out for help from Relatives who had no support. As more Relatives began reaching out, the need for training, support, and coordinated efforts for prevention and SAR was evident. We learned that most certified SAR teams are bound by oath to respond to calls only if requested by law enforcement.
The determination was made we needed to form our own skilled teams willing and able to deploy, which is where Turtle Island NOMADS, War Party Movement, and <a href="https://www.aquilinedrones.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Aquiline Drones</a> came in.&nbsp;
In November 2022, four <a href="https://shop.aquilinedrones.com/product/spartacus-hurricane-drone/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Spartacus Hurricane II </a>drones were received from Aquiline Drones and its CEO, Barry Alexander. We immediately nominated team leads in the most affected areas and sent them out to New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Dakota, and California.

Turtle Island NOMADS was formed on December 31, 2022, in direct response to build independent, grassroots teams to bring experienced instructors, a train-the-trainer program, and facilitate getting the drones and equipment to the most affected areas in need of solutions. Through Aquiline Drones, we are able to bring the training and FAA licensing included in the package offered by Aquiline Drones called Flight To The Future, that will bring the long-term high-paying careers that our Nations most desire.
With the independence that Aquiline Drones have been offering with our own independent modifications, we can grow economic markets that can be marketed between or shared Inter-Tribally for systems additions or modifications, or sold abroad to the world markets. The possibilities are endless.

The Spartacus Hurricane drones are top of the line and made in America. They have also offered their training package. Flight To The Future, for our operators. This training is much more than FAA preparation and drone operating. Barry Alexander is also aware of the struggles of Native people, and the extreme need for action. Because of this, they have stepped up to be the example to big corporations, that they can and will choose to do what needs to be done to aid the empowerment in a major way. By doing this, not only do they show the people that they care, but that they are willing to aid with resources purely for the benefit of the people.

As a former Green Beret, he served in 3rd Special Forces Group as a Special Forces Communications Sergeant and in the 10th Special Forces Group as a Special Forces Operations (Team) Sergeant with multiple combat rotations to Iraq, Afghanistan, and Africa.

His group is fully aware of the issues at hand, and is willing to help and support where it can&mdash;many of them becoming drone operators in collaboration with Turtle Island NOMADS and Aquiline Drones to help with training, organization, skills, and support. Wilber has personally delivered the donated drones from Aquiline Drones to team leads around the country. The need for drone technology and knowledge becoming skill sets have been among many discussions we have had in developing solutions to the MMIR crisis. This is why we cannot simply have one or two trained teams in a single area.

According to <a href="https://www.designboom.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">designboom</a>, researchers at the <a href="https://www.epfl.ch/en/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL)</a> have developed an edible drone.&nbsp;
It's no joke.
The drone is constructed from two wings crafted from rice cakes, and it has the potential to keep emergency victims&mdash;such as stranded hikers or injured climbers&mdash;nourished until rescuers can arrive.&nbsp;
"We propose a drone that is no longer only a food transporting aircraft," said the researchers, "but itself is partially edible&mdash;increasing its food-carrying mass ratio to 50 percent, owing to its edible wings. Furthermore, should the edible drone be left behind in the environment after performing its task in an emergency situation, it will be more biodegradable than its non-edible counterpart, leaving less waste in the environment."
A prototype devised by the scientists bearing the two rice cake wings attached to a thin fuselage, a tail, and a propeller is said to provide 300 kcal and also carry a payload of 80g of water.
What inspired the team at EPFL to create this "Eat a Drone" experiment was the realization that commercial drones typically carry only 10 percent to 30 percent of their own mass as payload, limiting the amount of food that can be delivered via a single flight. The scientists endeavored to increase the payload ratio by using edible materials as structural elements.

Swiss Develop Edible Drone

A drone-training session by the Fremont County Sheriff's Office in Colorado Springs, Colorado, lead to the rescue of a golden retriever that had been missing for three months.
The training session was undertaken in an area where the dog&mdash;named Farah&mdash;had been seen and even photographed by residents the past few months. Rescue attempts were unsuccessful.
"If people got too close, she'd run away," said Farah's owner, Taylor Salazar. "She knew where to go. She was hiding."&nbsp;
However, the infrared camera on the drone deployed by sheriff's deputies found Farah almost immediately after the training session was launched. Salazar was called, and she was able to assist the deputies in retrieving Farah by offering up a piece of chicken meat.
"She stuck her head through the barbed wire fence, and the next minute she was laying in my lap," said Salazar.&nbsp;
"Today the FCSO UAS team took part in a training mission with a humanitarian twist," stated the Fremont County Sheriff's Office on its Facebook page. "Farah the Golden Retrever was lost several months ago when the car she was in was involved in an accident. Today, the FCSO drone was deployed in the area where she was last seen. Within minutes, deputies spotted her using the drone's infrared camera. A short time later, Farah was reunited with her family. She is safely on her way home, and the UAS team was able to practice some very valuable search and rescue techniques with our drone."

The Farah story goes deeper than an everyday animal resuce. Salazar told Colorado Springs-based radio station <a style="color: #ba372a;" href="https://krdo.com/news/2022/09/12/fremont-county-sheriffs-office-finds-dog-missing-for-months-with-drone/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">KRDO</a> that she and her late husband adopted Farah in 2019, after he was diagnosed with terminal cancer.
"We needed something to brighten up our household, and she did just that," said Salazar. "My husband was in love with her the minute he saw her."
Sadly, her husband passed away, and years later, Salazar's father was involved in an auto accident with Farah in the car. He suffered a seizure, and when his car crashed in a relatively unlit rural area, Farah ran off.&nbsp;
The dog had been in the wild until the drone spotted her.
It was a joyous ending to Farah's tale...

Feel Good Friday: Colorado Police Drone Finds Lost Dog

The first minutes after an accident are critical and essential to provide the right care to prevent escalation. Speeding up emergency response can prevent deaths and accelerate recovery dramatically. This is notably true for heart failure, drowning, traumas, and respiratory issues. Lifesaving technologies such as an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), medication, and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) aids can be designed compact enough to be carried by a drone.
For the Ambulance Drone, a new type of frame was developed that is a compact flying toolbox containing essential supplies for (lay-person) advanced life support. Portability helps the drone to be used anywhere&mdash;including indoors.
The first prototype focuses on the delivery of an Automated Defibrillator (AED). In the European Union, around 800,000 people per year suffer from a cardiac arrest with an upsetting survival rate of just eight percent. The main reason for the high number of casualties is the relatively slow response time of emergency services, which average around ten minutes. For reference, brain death can start to occur in just four to six minutes.

With the Ambulance Drone, it is possible to deliver defibrillation to any patient in a seven-mile area within one minute. At that speed, survival rates can be as high as 80 percent. The incorporation of a two-way, video-supported communication channel in the drone between operators and first responders will improve initial care efforrts. For example, successful AED usage by the public is currently at 20 percent. With personalized instructions and communication on the Ambulance Drone, we can increase that success rate to 90 percent. In short, the Ambulance Drone helps to save lives by extending existing emergency infrastructure with a network of fast and compact UAVs capable of bringing emergency supplies and establishing communication, anywhere.

Evolving Tech: The Ambulance Drone

It might not be hot or flashy enough for a part on Baywatch 2022, but a lifeguard drone in Valencia, Spain, earned its stripes by saving a 14-year-old boy this month when he became trapped in the clutches of a powerful tide.
The drone dropped a life vest to the teenager, which allowed him to keep afloat just before he began to sink beneath the waves. A lifeguard team arrived soon thereafter by jet ski.

"We saw the kid was in very bad shape, with almost no energy to keep floating, so I sent over the life vest," says Miguel Angel Pedrero, a drone pilot for General Drones, which has been supporting Spanish lifeguards in the town of Sagunto since 2017. "Because of the heavy waves, it was a complicated manuver, but we finally managed to give him the vest, and he could float until the lifeguards reached him."
Based in Valencia, General Drones now has more than 30 pilots and drones working with lifeguards at 22 beaches across Spain.
After being rescued, the 14-year-old&mdash;who was not identified&mdash;was sent to a local hospital. He was able to return home after 24 hours.

Emergency officials in Saskatchewan responded to a vehicle rollover in a heavily wooded area. Draganfly’s Life-Saving Legacy lives on in Commander 3 XL Drone

Here's a feel-good story about drones in action...
A drone team in Rutherford County, Tennessee found a missing senior citizen within an hour-and-a-half, spotlighting the advantages to first responders of deploying benevolent "eyes in the skies."
After Billy Parker&mdash;who is in his 60s and has medical issues&mdash;was reported missing by his wife, the Rutherford County Sheriff&rsquo;s Department had a K9 team on the ground within 20 minutes, and a drone from the county's fire and rescue team was in the air 15 minutes later.&nbsp;
&ldquo;We were able to search all of the fields behind the man&rsquo;s residence to make sure he wasn&rsquo;t down there," said Fire Chief Larry Farley with Rutherford County Fire Rescue. "We searched up and down Highway 231 to ensure he wasn&rsquo;t on the road, then we started searching the wooded area, and, about 20 mins later, they found a heat signature and could zoom in. Based on the description of his clothes, and knowing that he had a walker, we were able to locate him.&rdquo;
The county&rsquo;s sheriff&rsquo;s office and the fire department said using drones saves time and lives.
"It takes the&nbsp;one drone and a few sets of eyes from the Unmanned Aircraft Systems trailer to cover much ground," said Farley, who revealed that the pilots seek out thermal images and heat signatures in areas that aren't easily seen or accessible. "We also have the drone's camera feed sent back to our trailer, where two or three additional people are watching the TV screen. They&rsquo;re able to use other photographic equipment on the drone to search large areas quickly, and we can also follow the K9 teams."
The fire chief said his crews work closely with the Rutherford County Sheriff&rsquo;s office, and in several land searches of late, and they&rsquo;ve had great success at finding people.

Parker was ultimately found in a wooded area approximately 200 yards from his home.
As tools for saving lives, Chief Farley added: &ldquo;When somebody who is aged or has memory issues or health issues, we can locate them a whole lot faster with drones than what a land search could do."
