Last December, the U.S. Congress passed the&nbsp;<a style="color: #ba372a;" href="https://viewpoints.dji.com/blog/u.s.-congress-finalizes-fy25-national-defense-authorization-act-ndaa-without-countering-ccp-drones-act-heres-what-to-watch-for-in-2025?hsLang=en" target="_blank" rel="noopener">National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2025</a>. Among its provisions is a critical requirement: that a designated national security agency must conduct a risk assessment on drones manufactured in China by December 23, 2025.
We are now&nbsp;<a style="color: #ba372a;" href="https://viewpoints.dji.com/blog/six-months-to-the-ndaa-deadline-time-is-ticking-for-a-dji-audit?hsLang=en" target="_blank" rel="noopener">less than six months away</a>&nbsp;from this deadline.&nbsp;In March 2025, we penned a letter&nbsp;<a style="color: #ba372a;" href="https://dronedj.com/2025/04/04/dji-drone-ban-security-audit/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">formally urging</a>&nbsp;relevant agencies to fulfill this obligation set out by Congress. We made clear then - as we do now - that we welcome the opportunity to participate in a rigorous, transparent, and fair audit. We believe our products will stand up to scrutiny because our security protections and data privacy controls are real, robust, and industry-leading.
Since the start of this year, there has been no formal indication that the mandated review process has started.&nbsp; However, on July 10th,&nbsp;<a style="color: #ba372a;" href="https://stefanik.house.gov/2025/7/stefanik-moolenaar-crawford-request-national-security-review-of-chinese-drone-manufacturers" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a group of lawmakers</a>&nbsp;called on the Office of the Director of National Intelligence to complete the review - but to do so within 30 days. While we welcome the news of the audit finally getting support,&nbsp;we are deeply concerned that such a short timeline risks undermining the integrity of the process&nbsp;altogether.
A credible assessment must allow time for evidence to be reviewed, and it must include meaningful opportunities for engagement, clarification, and responsible dialogue. We urge policymakers to uphold the intent of the law by ensuring that this review is transparent, grounded in evidence, and not rushed. Reconsidering the proposed timeline is essential to enable a more thorough review - one that builds trust and constructively addresses concerns.
Without a credible process, there is a real risk that new DJI drones would be prevented from entering the U.S. market &ndash;&nbsp;not because of any proven risk, but simply due to compressed timelines or politically motivated decisions.&nbsp;This would deprive thousands of businesses, public safety agencies, and everyday users of essential technology, disrupting operations, increasing costs, and limiting access to tools that support safety, productivity, and innovation.
We are already seeing consequences at the state-level. The 2025 state legislative sessions saw a wave of proposals and legislation aimed at restricting the use of DJI drones, based on the same unfounded and unproven allegations that make a proper federal review so important. These risk sidelining the most widely used, capable, cost-effective, and trusted drone technology in the country.

ABZ Innovation L30 V2

<a style="color: #ba372a;" href="https://www.xtend.me/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">XTEND Reality Inc</a>., a global leader in human-guided autonomous drone systems, officially debuted its new U.S. headquarters and production facility today in Tampa, Florida. The ribbon-cutting event brought together federal, state and local leaders, as well as military personnel, to celebrate a major milestone in advancing American drone capabilities and bolstering regional economic development.
The new facility will manufacture and integrate XTEND's advanced drone systems to support critical U.S. defense missions. The opening comes as federal leaders intensify their push for domestically produced drone technologies that reduce foreign reliance and strengthen national security.

XTEND was founded in 2018 by brothers Aviv and Matteo Shapira in partnership with Rubi Liani. Prior to establishing XTEND, the Shapira brothers co-founded Replay Technologies, which was acquired by Intel in 2016 for $175 million.

XTEND's U.S. facility represents a major step in expanding U.S.-based production capacity and supporting the growing demand for advanced drone systems across the defense and public safety sectors. While focused on delivering Group 1 drones under contract for the U.S. Department of Defense, manufacturing will eventually expand to other critical drone components such as communication modules, motors and controllers to serve the country's broader drone industry. The site is expected to generate dozens of new jobs over the coming years and further Florida's role as a hub for aerospace and defense systems manufacturing.

XTEND opens U.S. Headquarters in Tampa

<a href="https://www.patriagroup.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Patria</a> is leading an industrial consortium in a new project combining electronic warfare and data transmission technologies that widely applies artificial intelligence. <a href="https://www.patriagroup.com/about-us/research-and-innovations/ai-wasp" target="_blank" rel="noopener">AI-WASP</a> (Artificial Intelligence Warfare Adaptive Swarm Platform) aims to develop a next-generation scalable and cognitive (swarm intelligence-driven) transceiver system (AIMA).
European armed forces operating in different operational environments need up-to-date situational awareness and communication systems that enable agile network solutions in dynamic tactical situations as well as the ability to defend against and counter electronic warfare.
Combining secure communications, frequency monitoring and electronic countermeasures in a single software-defined radio system will improve European defense readiness in a modern multidimensional warfare environment. AI-WASP is intended to cover manned and unmanned autonomous platforms of various sizes in all operational environments, including arctic conditions and vehicle interoperability.
Finland, Sweden, Estonia, Italy, Greece and Spain support the joint project and have signed a letter of intent to develop the system. The countries will also provide national funding for the project in addition to the 45 million euro support from the European Commission. The industrial consortium, led by Patria, brings together 16 top-class developers from across Europe, including key players from France, Germany and Lithuania.

<a style="color: #ba372a;" href="https://mightyfly.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">MightyFly </a>successfully conducted a live flight demonstration for the U.S. Air Force as part of its SBIR Phase II contract under the Department of the Air Force&rsquo;s <a href="https://afwerx.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">AFWERX</a> program. MightyFly provides expedited logistics services and manufactures and operates autonomous, hybrid-electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) cargo aircraft.
The demonstration, held at the New Jerusalem Airport on May 8, 2025, showcased MightyFly&rsquo;s autonomous cargo aircraft and its patented Autonomous Load Mastering System (ALMS). The Cento aircraft executed a DoD-relevant mission, demonstrating autonomous flight, cargo loading, unloading, and onboard package handling and balance management.
The Cento transported two large boxes from origin to destination. Before takeoff, the ALMS-equipped aircraft autonomously positioned and secured the packages into its cargo compartment. The aircraft then closed its nose cone, took off, flew to the destination, landed and ejected the packages without human intervention. It then continued to a third destination.
The demonstration also included autonomous handling of representative packages across key sectors, including healthcare, retail, logistics, manufacturing, disaster relief, and defense.
The recent Presidential Executive Order supporting domestic eVTOL adoption highlights the use of these aircraft for &ldquo;medical response, cargo transport, and rural access&rdquo; missions*, which align with MightyFly&rsquo;s model. This policy presents a timely opportunity for MightyFly as the company positions itself as a national asset in next-generation logistics, offering high efficiency services, minimal infrastructure requirements and low operational costs for both commercial and defense applications.

MightyFly demos Cento eVTOL for U.S. Air Force

<a href="https://www.doordash.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">DoorDash</a> and <a href="https://www.flytrex.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Flytrex</a> today announced the launch of their drone delivery service in the&nbsp;Dallas-Fort Worth&nbsp;metroplex, expanding upon a successful pilot program. Customers in parts of&nbsp;Little Elm&nbsp;and&nbsp;Frisco&nbsp;can now order food from dozens of local and national restaurants, including from Papa Johns King Road location and The Brass Tap, between 8:00am and 9:30pm, with delivery via Flytrex&rsquo;s autonomous drone fleet.
This marks Flytrex&rsquo;s first third-party app integration, enabling customers to place orders directly through the DoorDash app. Eligible customers can select drone delivery at checkout, with orders prepared at restaurants and flown to their homes. The service currently reaches over 30,000 households and more than 100,000 residents, with additional DFW sites launching soon.
DoorDash now offers the region&rsquo;s most expansive drone operating hours and the highest payload capacity. Flytrex drones can carry up to 6.6 pounds&mdash;the largest in the region&mdash;and next-generation models will increase capacity to 8.8 pounds.
