During a massive ICE deployment in Chicago, the FAA dropped a uniquely large, 15-mile radius Temporary Flight Restriction for drones through at least October 12.
Customs and Border Protection (CBP) requested the unprecendented-in-size drone ban due to “credible threats” that agents would be attacked from above during their actions from those protesting the ongoing detentions of immigrants in mostly Democratic cities.
“CBP requested a Temporary Flight Restriction due to a credible threat of small, unmanned aircraft systems being used against law enforcement during Midway Blitz,” CBP told TWZ.com when it asked for reasons why the drone ban was enacted.
There were no specifics documented by CBP for this action, excepting a blanket concern that "our brave law enforcement is facing a surge in assaults and violence, including a domestic terrorist shooting in Dallas and Antifa riots in Broadview. The Trump administration will utilize every tool to keep our law enforcement safe.”
To date, it is uncertain if small drones have ever been used by protestors to attack federal officers—although there is evidence that cartels and terrorist groups have weaponized drones for potential assaults.
On the other side of the coin, those against the ICE actions are implying having no drones in the skies means no public documentation of any heinous or illegal behavior by federal officers.
The Droning Company will attempt to share emerging reports as they occur.
