European Union leaders gathered in Copenhagen to strategize on defense measures to stop Russian drones invading their airspace.

"Europe must be able to defend itself," said Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen. "We need to strengthen our production of drones, of anti-drone capabilities, and this includes building up a European network of anti-drone measures that can protect and, of course, also neutralize intrusion from outside."

Although Denmark has stopped short of officially accusing Russia of recent incursions that temporarily shut down Copenhagen airport and others, concerns that Moscow is behind the incidents is driving defensive talks.

"The idea of a drone wall defense is timely and necessary," said NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

While the European Commission appears to support collective defensive measures to meet long-term security threats, it has not yet devised a plan for costs and implementation of a drone wall.
